From charging ashore with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (two UDPs as USMC Sergeant 1833) to leading dismounted infantry and cavalry scouts in Bradley and Stryker units with the Oregon National Guard (11B / 19D, NTC rotation, coined by an Army and Air Force General for urban small-unit tactics), James has lived the warrior life across three decades of service.
For 25 years inside the Federal Bureau of Prisons he rose from frontline Correctional Officer to Lieutenant, Vocational Training Instructor, and Employee Development Manager. But it was his 19-year tenure on the elite Special Operations Response Team (SORT) that forged his legend: deployments to the Manhattan Federal Detention Center (where his team located a smuggled firearm inside the walls), the George Floyd riots in Portland, and the Atlanta Penitentiary. MP-5, M4, Glock 19, 12-gauge shotgun—CQB, vehicle interdiction, high-risk escorts, personnel protection, subject control, rappelling—he didn’t just train it; he executed it when the world was burning.
Certified Firearms, De-escalation, and Innovative Learning Strategies Instructor, James is retiring from the Bureau this December to join Solution Point Plus training law enforcement nationwide.
